Water Leak Detection and Automatic Shut-Off
Place the sensors under a sink, near a washing machine or beside a water heater. When water reaches a sensor’s contacts, an automation configured in Aqara Home can:
- Trigger an audible alert on the M200 hub.
- Send a notification to your smartphone.
- Instruct the T1 controller to close the connected water valve.
The two sensors let you monitor two separate locations. They detect water where they are placed; they do not measure water consumption or detect leaks that do not reach their contacts.
T1 Valve Controller: Automate Your Existing Valve
The Aqara Valve Controller T1 mounts onto a compatible existing valve to control its opening and closing. With a suitable installation, there is no need to cut into the pipework.
It supports compatible lever-handle or butterfly-handle valves on DN15, DN20 and DN25 pipes, corresponding to 1/2", 3/4" and 1". Check the handle design, dimensions and available mounting space before purchasing.
The kit includes the motorised controller. The plumbing valve itself is not included.
Temperature and Humidity Monitoring
The Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor adds room monitoring to your setup. View readings in the app and configure alerts based on your chosen thresholds.
Use it in a utility room, basement or plant room that meets the sensor’s operating conditions. It measures ambient air conditions and does not, by itself, protect pipes against freezing.
M200 Hub: Audible Alerts and Local Automations
The included Aqara Hub M200 connects the kit’s accessories in Aqara Home. Its built-in speaker can provide an audible warning when a leak is detected.
Automations configured to run locally can continue operating without an Internet connection, provided the hub remains powered and the devices can communicate. Remote smartphone notifications require Internet access.
The M200 also acts as a Matter bridge, allowing supported Aqara accessories to integrate with other compatible smart home ecosystems.
Can It Control Garden Irrigation?
The T1 can operate a compatible valve supplying an irrigation system. Install it on a valve indoors in a suitable location: the controller is not waterproof and should not be exposed to the weather.
The water leak sensors do not replace a flow meter or soil moisture sensor. They can only detect an irrigation leak if the escaping water reaches their contacts.
Installation and Setup
- Check that your existing valve is compatible and operates correctly.
- Fit the T1 controller and position the sensors in the areas you want to monitor.
- Pair the devices with the M200 hub in Aqara Home.
- Configure a “water leak detected → close valve” automation and your preferred alerts.
- Test both leak detection and valve closure before relying on the system.
Provide a suitable USB-C or PoE power supply for the M200. A USB power adapter is not included in the hub’s standard retail box.

Does automatic water shut-off work immediately after installation?
You must first configure an automation in Aqara Home. Once the scenario has been created and tested, water detection can trigger the closure of a compatible valve without manual intervention.
Does the kit work without Internet access?
Automatic shut-off can work without Internet access when the automation runs locally on the hub. The M200 must remain powered, and communication with the sensors and T1 controller must remain operational. Remote smartphone notifications require an Internet connection.
Do I need a plumber to install the T1 controller?
The T1 can be fitted to a compatible existing valve in good working order without altering the pipework. If the valve needs replacing, is difficult to turn or does not allow the controller to be mounted correctly, have the installation checked by a qualified professional.
Is the kit compatible with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa?
The M200 can expose supported Aqara accessories to these ecosystems through Matter. Available features depend on the device, platform and software versions. The water leak protection automation described here is configured in Aqara Home.
Do I need an additional hub?
No. The M200 hub required for this Aqara setup is included in the kit.
